Overcoming Fear...

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to have your eyes opened in a way it has never opened before? Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be truly loved and cared for in a way you have never felt before? Well you have come to the right place! My name is Joanna and I am so gladyour here! Alongisde myself, TheEyeOpener envisions to share many magnificent eye opening messages with you to inspire, encourage and equip you all to have your eyes opened through our online community; using the power of God's Word in the glorious name of Jesus Christ.

I would like to start off by turning your attention to John Chapter 6 in the bible, verses 16 to 21. These verses impeccably described the miracle that occurred when Jesus walked on water. What truly inspired me to speak about this is not only does this miracle highlight God’s omnipotence, but this miracle also reflects a key emotion expressed constantly during our daily lives – especially during this time – and how we should channel it. This key emotion is fear.

Upon research of the Sea of Galilee itself, statistics state that the sea of galilee is 198 meters below sea level, 46 meters deep and surrounded by hills. These attributes make the sea of Galilee subject to fierce strong windstorms which was what was expected on this lake, making it seem very frightening and upon reading John chapter 6 verses 16 to 21 we can tell the disciples were frightened because Jesus was walking on water while a storm was approaching. In John chapter 6 verse 20 as Jesus was approaching the boat it says “it is I don’t be afraid”. This clearly shows that God is there so they shouldn’t be afraid. As you all are aware, we are currently experiencing a global pandemic that has taken many lives and is threatening to take more. We can reflect this in our lives especially through fears of contracting the Corona virus because we shouldn’t be afraid for God is with us and he is in control.

So, upon reading this passage the first key moral that was revealed to me was this: We may often face spiritual and emotional storms and we often may feel like we are being tossed about like a small boat on a big lake but in spite of the terrifying circumstances we may face (like the Coronavirus) we should always remember that if we trust our lives to Christ for his safekeeping - he will give us peace in any storm.

The second moral revealed to me through this passage is the upmost element of Christian belief and that is FAITH. If we take a look at verses 18 and 19 in chapter 6, the Bible tells us that the disciples were scared because as Jesus was walking on water they thought that they saw a ghost. However if they had remembered all the miracle they saw Jesus do, they would have not only accepted this miracle but they also would not have been scared. These disciples simply did not expect Jesus to walk on water. And that leads me onto the second moral of this miracle. FAITH is a mindset that expects God to act and when we act on this expectation, we overcome our fears.
