THE DIVINE CALL

The concept of God's calling, also known as 'the divine call', has sometimes been misunderstood within the Christian community. The opportunity of understanding the mere ' Divine calling of God' on a Christian's life, can at times be very confusing with personal dreams and ambitions. However, the purpose of a divine call or even a call to minister is NOT something we create - but something God places within us.

From the Old Testament to the New, God frequently called people to himself and to his work.

For example...

1) Abraham was called to leave his home and to travel to a place of promise

(Genesis 12:1-9)

2) Paul was "called to an apostle of Jesus Christ" (Romans/Corinthians 1:1) and noted in his letter to the Ephesian church that God "gave some apostles and some prophets; and some evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers" (Eph. 4:11).

These roles were vital in order to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,

as mentioned in Ephesians chapter 4 verse 11...

And so the meaning of the three words 'the divine call' can be interpreted in many ways, BUT according to the bible - Every Christian is called to a specific purpose. As Christians we are all called to Christ to follow and obey Him. He made that very clear when he said to his disciples, "If anyone would come after me he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow me" (Luke 9:23)." On that note I would like to finish by expressing one final point - The call to Jesus himself is the ultimate call on our lives.

Dear Lord Heavenly father,

I pray that despite the different plans and purposes you have for each and every one of us in our lives, our faith in you will be continual and we will always obey and follow you, Jesus. I also pray you would help us remember that you alone are truly the divine call to our lives.
