So why do you still react as if your old general was still in control of your behaviour?
--What life is like being AWAY FROM GOD--
I'll tell you why. It's because while YOU served under it, your old self trained and conditioned your reactions, actions, emotional responses, thought patterns, memories and habits in a specific part of the brain called "the flesh". The flesh is that tendency within each person to operate independently of God and to centre his interests on himself.
An unsaved person functions totally in the flesh; worshipping and serving the creature rather than the Creator. Such people live for themselves even though their activities seem to be motivated by selflessness and concern for others.
* Romans 8:7 - 8 = The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
*Romans 1:25 = They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
*2 Corinthians 5:15 = And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
When you were born again, your old self died and your new self came to life. Therefore, your new self was made to take part in Christ's divine nature. But your flesh remains. Do you not understand? You have brought to your new Christian commitment a fully flesh-conditioned mindset and selfish lifestyle that had stirred away from God for so long. Since you were physically born alive yet spiritually pronounced dead, you have not experienced the presence of God and nor have you learned of his righteous ways. YOU LIVED YOUR LIFE THEY YOU WANTED TO LIVE IT, NOT THE WAY GOD WANTS YOU TO LIVE IT. Your flesh had turned away from God.
During the years you spent living away from God, your worldly experiences had thoroughly programmed your brain with though patterns, memory traces, responses and habits that opposes itself completely from God. So even though your old self is GONE, your flesh remains to be opposing God as a tendency for sin still living AWAY FROM GOD
Now you must know. You must know that you don't have to obey that preprogramed tendency of sin, constantly aiming to turn away from god once more. You are a child of God and you are free to put those fleshly deeds to rest and obey Christ.
Lets pray now:
Dear Lord Heavenly Father, I pray that you will newly declare an eternal dependence on you especially in the way I choose to live. I pray in your mighty name that all the tendencies of sin still living in me will flee from my body, so that I may live a God pleasing life from now on. AMEN
